A recent update was applied to the Department home pages. This update added three new content areas: Welcome statement, Buttons and a Trending Box.
Welcome Statement As part of the Home page, there is an area directly under the Slideshow Side where you can place a 1000 character (approximately 200 words).
Buttons There are four buttons on the right side of the Department website home page. These buttons can be edited to say something new and/or link to a different website or document. Do not add or delete any of the buttons.
Trending Box The Right Sidebar of the Homepage is divided into five sections: Social Media Links, Buttons, Events, Trending Box and Photo Gallery. Each department can select the type of content to be displayed in the Trending Box from the following: Recent Publications, Twitter Feed or Media Mention.
Our Drupal web sites are currently grouped into four template categories:
- Extension Counties – the 88 Extension County web sites.
- Drupal 7 Basic – many of our web sites use this template, for example: d7sandbox.cfaes.ohio-state.edu
- Departments – the CFAES Departments, for example: plantpath.osu.edu
- Top level web sites – such as: CFAES, ATI, South Centers, Extension Main and OARDC.
Updates are continually made to the four templates. For example the Drupal 7 Basic template Event content type was recently updated to include a Cancelled check box. If you create an Event that is later cancelled, you can simply log on to your Drupal 7 Basic web site, go to the Edit function for the Event and select the Cancelled box. This keeps the Event on the web site and lets your possible attendees know that the Event was Cancelled.
Why would you want to keep a Cancelled Event on your web site? If you have to cancel an event, it's important to communicate with your possible attendees. Let your possible attendees know about expectations for refunds, if applicable, who they can contact with further questions, or if you plan on re-scheduling the event date. You can communicate this in the body text of the Cancelled Event.
On Wednesdays of each week Drupal sends out security updates and patches. Our web developers receive and evaluate these as they come in to make sure we act on any that affect our environment. There were a number of issues this week below is a list of those that affect our environment and what steps have been taken or are in progress. This is just an example of all the “behind the scenes” activates that take place constantly to keep our websites updated and secure. (This is just a small example, many more maintenance and development things happen every day.)
Overlay - There is a security update to the Overlay. This largely does not affect us because we disabled the overlay for other reasons previously. It was still enabled on the county sites however. The web developers fixed a dependency problem on the county sites and disabled the overlay everywhere else.
JQuery Update - The jQuery update module allows us to switch between versions of jQuery as needed. There was also a security update in the jQuery Update module an upgrade was performed.
CCK(D6) - The CCK is a module that helped in creation of custom fields in D6. There was a security update to this module and it was updated. This also required an update to the EPN Core.
There are many websites in the college and they are grouped, for management, by their function within the college. For example: basic template, department template and extension template. Updates to content types are created and applied to template groups of websites.
The person content type for the basic template has been updated. The updates include:
External Profile – If the person has a profile on another website you may put the URL to that profile in this space. Note: The directory categories will still appear in the People listing (unless you choose to hide this profile from the listing). When External Profile is selected clicking on the profile will open the website referenced by the URL.
Degree Information – Degrees the person has completed. Example: PhD Education, The Ohio State University (2015)
Related Links – Link(s) to an additional website(s). Such as the person’s laboratory website, research website or class website.
Hide profile from listings – If this person’s profile needs to be on the website, but does not need to appear on the list of people, check this box.
